smallholderwannabe

This blog is mainly a rambling kind of diary of the transition from smallholderwannabe to smallholder.

It has been a really busy few weeks at school so I've not got round to blogging. But it is half term now (yay!!!). I've had a really lazy Saturday - not done anything apart from 3 loads of washing and feeding the hens. It has been really nice. My daughter called in at lunchtime for a short while and stayed until teatime so it was nice to catch up with her.

We had 2 eggs today. Yesterday we had none. In fact we had 0 eggs on 3 days this week. 12 of them eating their little heads off and a grand total of 6 eggs for the week. A couple of them are just about starting to moult but the rest haven't lost a feather yet. When the clocks go back next weekend, I will start to really miss seeing my chooks on weekdays because they haven't got up when I go out to work and they've gone to bed when I get home. I miss their antics. They get a bit of extra fuss at the weekend, though.

I want to do my pickled onions this week. My friend got me a sack of onions when she went to the market and I've got some of those close fitting disposable gloves at the ready. I've got ideas of padding out Christmas presents with a jar of onions and maybe a jar of jam as well. I need to really get my thinking cap on this week and organise what I can make as presents. I've got a couple of presents sorted out but I was hoping for inspiration about something I can make a bit at a time in my lunchbreaks at work.

Enough for now - I'll need matchsticks to keep my eyes open if I stay here any longer.
