Ah Jo, it's never nice is it, so sorry you had to do it. We've got away with having cockerels here on the farm, but have more neighbours at the new house, so will have to move without them, maybe anyway, we'll see ;) Thanks for the comment on my blog, always good to meet new friends! Hubby is very impressed with your leaf idea and will be gathering like a madman (in between moving house) so our chickens shoudl have a more comfortable run this winter! Carly x
Thanks for dropping by. Are you moving to somewhere with a bit of land still? If you are, then I'm envious!
My cockerel was one of the 3 chicks hatched at school this summer. He was a pet and was used to people picking him up all his life. He was such a softie. I've looked after him since he hatched and I never saw him fight one of the others. He was a cockerel and tolerated cuddles! I felt like we had betrayed him.
Still, I live in a built up area. He did help me introduce a solitary hen to his two ladies and this one is now happily settled in. We have other hens too.
